The interconnection queue is the whole problem.
If you want to understand why AI infrastructure is stuck, do not look at chips. Look at the interconnection queue.
The queue is the line you stand in to connect a new large load, or a new power plant, to the grid. In much of the country that line is measured in years. You file, you study, you restudy when someone ahead of you drops out, you pay for upgrades, you wait. A new gigawatt campus does not get delayed by weeks. It gets delayed by the better part of a decade.
This is the real bottleneck, and it is easy to miss because everyone talks about supply. There is plenty of generation being proposed. There is plenty of demand. What there is not is a fast way to connect the two at scale. The wire, not the electron, is scarce.
Now hold that fact next to another one. The grid is not empty. It is lumpy. All over the country there are small blocks of existing, already-interconnected power sitting idle. A substation with headroom. An industrial site that shut a line down. A factory that closed and left its service behind. These are real megawatts, already connected, already paid for, just waiting for a load.
Nobody bids those blocks into a capacity auction. Nobody issues a press release about five stranded megawatts at a substation outside a mid-sized town. They are too small to matter to anyone building monuments. So they sit.
They sit because the industry only knows how to build one size of thing. If your only product is a gigawatt campus, then two or five or ten megawatts of stranded power is useless to you. You cannot fit your building into it. So you ignore it and go stand in the queue for new power that does not exist yet.
We built a machine that fits. A 2 megawatt block is exactly the size of the power that is already lying around. It does not need a new plant or a new line or a rate case. It shows up on a pad, connects like any other industrial customer, and does its work.
That is the unlock. Not building more grid faster, though we should build more grid faster. The unlock is matching the load to the power that is already there, in the increments it already comes in, so you never have to join the queue at all.
The queue is the whole problem. The answer is not to wait in it more efficiently. The answer is to stop needing it.
